Why is Marine Algae so beneficial for the face & body?

Marine Algae contains nutrients, minerals, trace-elements and vitamins. Their active potential is immense: for example, one alga contains a thousand times more iodine, one hundred times more calcium and ten times more magnesium and copper than a terrestrial plant.

Sea water is absorbed by the Algae, then ejected, but the Algae retain the sea ions. Sea water is very close to our own blood plasma. When Micronized Marine Algae is applied to the skin it is acceptable to the body's constitution. Micronized Marine Algae provides all the elements needed for a healthy skin and increases micro-blood circulation.

Try: Micronized Marine Algae sachets a relaxing bath treatment that remineralizes and revitalizes. Apply Plasmalg Gel first to assist the absorption of the Micronized Marine Algae.

Why do I need to use specialised products for my eye area?

More often than not the first visible signs of ageing are the appearance of fine lines around the eye area.

Exposed to multiple aggressors, the skin is extremely fine and prone to dryness. Also the skin around the eye area is continually moving. Are you aware that we blink approximately 10 000 times a day!

The epidermis in this area is not only highly sensitive but also easily irritated.

Thalgo has developed a range of products and treatments specifically formulated for this fragile area.

Try: "Gentle Eye Make Up Remover" and "Revitalizing Eye Contour Cream". For an intensive treatment use "Firming Eye Contour Gel" to target fine lines, dark circles and puffiness.

What is a liposome?

A liposome is a targeted carrier that releases active ingredients into the cells over a period of time. Due to its power of absorption and controlled release of active ingredients, liposomes are a powerful tool and are often utilised as an intensive booster for the skin.

Try: "Absolute Rehydrating Serum" for in-depth hydration or "Thalgogive Refining Firming Serum" to refine and resculpt the contours of the face.

Why is my skin ageing?

The phenomenon of skin ageing is unavoidable. It is defined as functional deterioration due to the actions of the passing of time on our bodies.

This ageing is either intrinsic (physiological process: genetic conditions and hormonal changes), or extrinsic (influence of environmental factors such as the sun and pollution. Behavioural factors such as tobacco and alcohol, which increase the production of free radicals)

Try: "Wrinkle Control Smoothing Care" to treat the cause of wrinkles or "Exceptional Serum" to assist with slowing the skin ageing process.

In  summer, why does my skin look flaky and feels rough to touch?

In the summer months our skin is often exposed to sun, wind and air-conditioning. A combination of these external factors can lead to dehydration - a lack of sufficient moisture in the cellular system and intercellular channels. Dehydration is the most common of all skin conditions. Over one third of women suffer from dehydrated skin.

Care for a dehydrated skin should include appropriate products that will protect the skin. For example, a function of a hydrating moisturiser is not to give the skin water, but to help the skin hold onto its natural moisture. Indeed, water itself applied on the skin dries it out. It washes away the hydration substances that the skin naturally locks in: urea, amino acids and other hydrophilic products that stop water in the dermis evaporating too quickly.

Thalgo has designed a range of Hydration products that preserves the vital water balance in all skin types.

Try: "Energising Vitality Cream" to hydrate and revitalize and "Relaxing Cream" to hydrate and replenish. Used alternately (morning and evening) these creams provide 24 hour hydration.

Help! Why do I have cellulite?

Cellulite is the result of a disorder of fatty tissue. When the body's metabolism is running smoothly, triglycerides accumulate in fat cells (adipocytes) and form fat reserves. These are than transformed through an enzymatic process into fatty acids that are freed into the blood. This process is known as 'lipolysis'.

The 'lipolysis' process is slower in some people and as a result there is an increase in the volume of fat. The areas most affected are the thighs, stomach and gluteal area.

Cellulite will occur in 3 stages. The first stage, you will hardly notice. The second stage, you will see a dimpling of the skin known as 'orange peel' and the third stage which is also difficult to see but cold and painful to touch and has poor circulation.

Contributing factors for cellulite are: heredity, hormones, stress, constipation, liver problems and circulatory problems.

Far from being inevitable, cellulite may lessen when a healthy lifestyle is combined with specific treatments and home-care products.

Try: "Frigimince Spray" to combat water retention and "Thalgomince Cream" to firm and refine.

My cheeks are always red. What should I use?

Redness is often a result of a condition called couperose. Couperose is characterized by diffused redness and/or small broken capillaries. These usually appear on the cheeks, the side of the nose and sometimes on the chin.

Couperose is due to a lack of elasticity in the walls of the blood capillaries. Every time we make our skin hot through putting our face under a hot shower, going in the sun without a sunscreen that blocks out the heat rays, alcohol, hot spicy food etc our blood capillaries expand so there is a bigger surface area for the blood to cool down.

Over a period of time the capillary walls become weak, lose their elasticity and stay dilated, storing blood, which presents itself as diffused redness. If we don't strengthen the capillary walls, constrict the capillaries and push the blood through they will eventually break, hence the final stage of couperose, broken capillaries.

Try: "Bio-Repair Serum" to repair and strengthen and "Bio-Repair Cream" which has a vasoconstriction action.

Why do I have stretch marks?

Appearing during physiological and hormonal changes (puberty, pregnancy, weight gain...), stretch marks are the result of deterioration in the collagen and elastin fibres.

Try: "Stretch Mark Cream" to help prevent their formation and encourage attenuation.

My skin is oily, how do I look after it?

Oily skin is generally the result of an imbalance of the sebaceous (oil) glands, where it produces too much oil.

Often hereditary, an oily skin can be made worse by aggravating factors. For example, a hot and humid climate, incorrect skin care products etc.

To efficiently treat an oily skin the following guidelines are necessary:

  • Gentle regular cleansing, avoiding aggressive products
  • In-depth rebalancing
  • Moisturising
Try: "Ultra-Matte Moisturising Fluid" to help normalize sebaceous gland secretions and "Deep-Cleansing Absorbent Mask" to purify the skin and absorb excess oil.

In the Absolute Hydration Range, what does Séve Marine Do?

Séve Marine is the unifying ingredient of Absolute Hydration. This hydrating complex is extracted from algae called Blidingia Minima. Together with Seve Marine, Thalgo has added. Chrondus Crispus and a plant Imperata Cylindrica.

Blidingia Minima is small green algae which grows on the foreshore between high and low tides. It can survive without water for over 14 days with no change to its metabolism.

Chrondus Crispus is rusty brown algae living in the Iroise Sea, in Brittany, rich in mineral salts, trace elements and vitamins.

Imperata Cylindrica, this plant belongs to the sugar cane family. It is found in coastal sand dunes, floodplains and desert areas in inland Australia.

Séve Marine influences hydration levels in a number of ways:
  • It improves the skin's ability to retain water
  • It limits water loss through evaporation
  • It increases intercellular cohesion
  • It stimulates the formation of intracellular lipids within the epidermis
Hydrating power provided by Seve Marine- stimulating during the day (Hydration-Vitality) and repairing at night (Hydration-Relaxation).

Try: "Relaxing Cream" used at the end of the day, has a regenerating + nourishing effect.

In Serum d'Exception, Natural Marine Algae Hormones are one of the main active ingredients. How does it work?

A team of specialists discovered algae highly concentrated with Natural Marine Algae Hormones which act as a cellular renewal catalyst.
Natural Marine Algae Hormones are:

  1. Growth Hormones (not oestrogen) that regulate the growth of algae
  2. Stress Hormones which protect the algae against all types of aggressions: hydric stress, mineral deficiencies, wounds and cold temperatures.
They belong to the family of growth hormones and cannot be compared biologically to human oestrogen hormones, but they are bio-mimetic and imitate the function of human hormones. They enable us to actively combat the signs of ageing.

This active extract, rich in Natural Marine Algae Hormones was discovered in 2 brown algae: Ascophyllum nodosum and Halopteris scoparia.

The Marine extract rich in Natural Marine Algae Hormones has a triple action ( tested in-vitro):

  • Slows down the deterioration of hyaluronic acid by over 76%. Hyaluronic acid is responsible for the elasticity and plumpness in babies' skins.
  • Counteracts the deterioration of elastin (the skin's structural support fibres) by more than 90%.
  • Stimulates the proliferation of fibroblasts (that produce elastin and collagen) by more than 235%.
Try: "Exceptional Serum" to combat skin ageing.

Thalgomen has an ingredient I have never heard of- Algue Bleue Vitale. What is it?

Algue Bleue Vitale was a recent scientific discovery on the west coast of the United States in Oregon. At the heart of a natural ecosystem, scientists discovered an exceptional geological formation: Klamath Lake.

Klamath Lake is located at the heart of a volcanic cascade chain called the "Cascade Mountains". The lake itself was formed by the melting snow from the Cascade Mountains as well as the inflow of volcanic springs.

"Klamath" is the name of the Native American Modoc tribe who lived around the lake. It was also called "Medicine Lake" by the Klamaths, who believed it strengthened anyone who bathed in it.

This fabulous ecosystem is at the origin of the shared active ingredient in the Thalgomen range- Algue Bleue Vitale.

To perfectly meet the needs of men's skin, the action of Algue Bleue Vitale combines 2 complementary actions: anti-ageing and anti-fatigue. It is reinforced with Enterromorpha Compressa (green algae) to stimultaneously 'calm' stressed cells.

Try: "After Shave Balm". it's soothing + repairing qualities effecting skin after shaving.

Substance Initiale Marine found in the Wrinkle Control range activates the synthesis of the intercellular substance of our skin. How?

The skin contains a substance known as Intercellular substance, from which collagen and elastin fibres emerge. This substance is composed of mineral salts, trace elements, proteins and water 'glued' by glycosaminoglycans. Glycosaminoglycans give the intercellular substance the texture of a gel. They play an important part in the hydration, firmness and elasticity of the tissues.

In summary, the Intercellular Substance helps revitalise the skin providing it with strength and elasticity.

As the skin ages, however, the Intercellular Substance content diminishes, the skin becomes thinner and drier-thus encouraging the appearance of wrinkles.

Substance Initiale Marine is a trio of active ingredients designed to encourage the skin to synthesize its own intercellular substance. Wrinkles are 'pushed back' from within.

Purified Padina Pavonica Extract: A brown algae that encloses itself within a protective 'envelope'. This envelope is formed by an extra-cellular matrix very similar to our own Intercellular Substance, thus it is recognised by our own cells and boosts the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans.

Matrixyl: This peptide boosts the collagen synthesis, skin's true support, by more than 102% (in vitro test). It helps reduce the number and depth of wrinkles (in vivo test).

Beech Bud Extract: high concentration of minerals, trace elements and 'phytostimulines'. It helps promote the cells energy reserves and smooth out the skin.

Try: "Wrinkle Control Cream" to treat the cause of wrinkles.

I know what collagen is but what is Marine Pro-Collagen and how does it work?

If you can imagine the skin is like a bed. You have the mattress which is the epidermis and the base of the bed which is the dermis. In young skin, the mattress is firmly attached to the base of the bed by anchoring proteins: collagen fibres (IV and VII) and laminin.

As we age, these anchoring proteins tend to deplete and the epidermis and the dermis are no longer firmly attached. Due to the combined effects of gravity and mechanical pulling, the epidermis looses its firmness and the facial contours lose their definition.

Marine Pro-Collagen, present in the Thalgogive range, is a duo of actives that strengthen the bond between the epidermis and dermis to combat loss of firmness and loss of the facial definition.

Kelpadelie: extract of Macrocystis Pyrifera, a giant brown kelp from Antarctica, protects the anchoring proteins by fighting the enzymes that attack them. It also stimulates the production of elastin, responsible for the skin's tone and elasticity.

Toniskin: this purified yeast extract boosts the synthesis of collagen IV and VII - the main anchoring proteins that secure the epidermis to the dermis.

Try: "Thalgogive Perfect Contour Cream" to firm the skin and rebuild itself from within.
